WHAT IS CHEVY SAFETY ASSIST?

Chevy Safety Assist represents Chevrolet's commitment to enhancing road safety by incorporating advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) across its vehicle lineup. This initiative reflects a broader trend in the automotive industry to include sophisticated safety technologies as standard features, moving beyond the days when such aids were reserved only for higher trims or luxury models.

Chevy Safety Assist Features

The package bundles six key technologies designed to assist drivers in various critical situations, enhancing both safety and convenience:

  • Forward Collision Alert: This feature utilizes cameras and sensors to monitor the road ahead, providing visual and auditory warnings if a potential front-end collision is detected or if you're following another vehicle too closely.
  • Automatic Emergency Braking: This feature works in tandem with the Forward Collision Alert to automatically apply the brakes or supplement the driver's braking effort when an imminent collision is detected. It is primarily effective during daylight hours and at speeds under 50 mph.
  • Front Pedestrian Braking: Similar to Automatic Emergency Braking but focused on detecting pedestrians, this system automatically engages the brakes to prevent or mitigate collisions with pedestrians.
  • Following Distance Indicator: Helps maintain a safe following distance from the vehicle ahead by estimating and displaying the time gap in seconds, encouraging drivers to keep a safe distance.
  • Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning: Monitors lane markings and alerts the driver if the vehicle begins to drift out of its lane without signaling, providing gentle steering input to assist in correcting the lane departure.
  • IntelliBeam: Automatically toggles between high and low-beam headlights based on the presence of oncoming vehicles or vehicles ahead, optimizing visibility while avoiding blinding other drivers.

For 2024, Chevy Safety Assist is expanding to include additional features such as front pedestrian and cyclist braking, an HD rear-vision camera, rear cross-traffic braking, blind-zone steering assist, HD surround vision, intersection emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control in models like the all-new 2024 Chevy Traverse.

Emergency Braking and Safety Alerts

Among these features, emergency braking technologies stand out for their potential to prevent accidents by automatically applying the brakes in critical situations, whether the risk involves another vehicle or a pedestrian. The suite's safety alerts, such as rear pedestrian alert, side bicyclist alert, seat safety alert, and camera alerts, contribute significantly to situational awareness and collision avoidance.

Lane Keep Assist, IntelliBeam, and OnStar Safety & Security

Chevy Safety Assist features Lane Keep Assist which helps ensure the vehicle remains within lane boundaries, while IntelliBeam optimizes headlight use for better nighttime visibility without dazzling other drivers. OnStar Safety & Security offers additional peace of mind through automatic crash response, emergency services, and more.

Teen Driver

A notable inclusion is the Teen Driver system, designed to promote safer driving habits among young drivers. Parents can limit certain vehicle functions and monitor their teen's driving performance.
